Maddox Schultz's spectacular tournament guides Regina Pats to U18 crown

15-year-old phenom scores 20 points in seven games to help Regina win inside Chilliwack Coliseum

Years from now, Fraser Valley hockey fans can say they were there when Maddox Schultz lit up the Telus Cup.

The 15-year-old phenom scored 20 points (nine goals and 11 assists) in just seven games for the champion Regina Pats Canadians, including the overtime winner to lift his team to a 3-2 win over Quebec's Chevaliers de Levis in Sunday's (April 27) final inside the Chillliwack Coliseum.

Schultz received a pass from the point, moved in and beat Chevaliers de Levis goalie Antoine Proulx just 28 seconds into the extra frame to help Regina earn the title.

His 20 points performance is tied with Sam Reinhart in 2011 for the second-most ever in one tournament. Alex Kerfoot holds the record with 22 points also in 2011. Both Kerfoot and Reinhart have gone on to have successful careers as a pro.

"They were on me so I had to get loose and I saw the whole right side of the net from where I was and just ripped it shelf," he said, after the win. "It feels super special and our team is extremely excited."

Schultz picked up the assists on the Pats other two goals on Sunday. He is expected to be a top pick in the upcoming WHL Draft. The win marks the fifth Telus Cup in Regina Pats Canadians history. They had last won the crown in 1999.

Regina finished the preliminary round in second place at 4-1 and the lone loss they suffered was a 6-2 setback to Chevaliers de Levis on Friday (April 25). Regina defeated the Elgin Middlesex Canucks 5-0 in the semifinal on Saturday (April 26) to advance to the gold medal game and a rematch against Chevaliers de Levis.

Sunday's bronze medal game saw the Moncton Flyers defeat the Elgin Middlesex Canucks 4-1. The host Fraser Valley Thunderbirds struggled at the event and finished without a win.

Schultz's teammate Jonah Sivertson also had a strong tournament and finished second in points with 14. Pats goalie Taylor Tabashniuk was excellent and posted a .951 save percentage and a 1.20 goals against average for the tournament.

Hockey Canada announced last week that Peterborough, Ont. will host the 2026 Telus Cup, which will run from April 20 to 26 of next year. For more on the 2025 event, visit hockeycanada.ca/en-ca/national-championships/men/u18-club/2025.
