Highway 1 remains closed in both directions as homicide investigators probe a suspicious death north of Yale.

It was around 4:15 a.m. when Boston Bar police responded to a report about a person lying on the side of the highway north of Yale. When they arrived, they found a person with life-threatening injuries who later died at the scene.

Cpl. Mike Rail with the RCMP said the investigation is now in the evidence gathering stage. This involved closing the highway at around 5:00 a.m., as of 5 p.m. the highway remains closed in both directions.

Crews are stationed at Ross Road in Haig, informing drivers of the road closure and only allowing in local traffic. Other drivers are being asked to detour via the Coquihalla Highway (southbound) or north via Spences Bridge and Merritt.

The RCMP’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) are involved in the investigation, as are Hope RCMP.
