Campfires are once again allowed in Hope and surrounding area.

The Hope Fire Department declared on Tuesday morning that campfires are allowed within municipal boundaries.

“We remind residents that this applies to small fires burning dry, seasoned firewood for the purpose of cooking food or warmth,” said the fire department in a Facebook post. “No other open burning is permitted within the District of Hope boundaries despite what you may hear or see posted by BC Wildfire and is subject to penalties.”

BC Wildfire Service rescinded their campfire prohibition within the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction on Monday at noon. The use of tiki torches (and similar kinds of torches), outdoor stoves, gas stoves and other portable campfire equipment is also now permitted
