Life may be close to getting back to normal at Hope’s Canada Post office.

Since late fall the post office has been operating on reduced hours because of a staff shortage.

But according to Canada Post spokesperson Valérie Chartrand, better times are ahead.

“We have been successful in hiring new employees who began their training last week, and some that will begin their training next week,” she said in an email response to the Hope Standard June 17. “When fully staffed, this post office has a total of five positions.”

The post office has only been open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays, causing angst among Hope residents who want to mail packages or pick up stamps.

Chartrand said the plan is to be back to regular hours by the end of the month.

“We apologize to our customers for this inconvenience,” she said. “If customers have questions regarding mail delivery, they can also contact Canada Post’s Customer Service team online at canadapost.ca/support or by telephone at 1-866-607-6301 (TTY: 1-800-267-2797).
