Carving stolen from outside Owl Street Cafe

Police are seeking information.

Police are seeking suspects who stole a carving of an eagle from the front the Owl Street Cafe, located in Silver Creek.

Police said they received a report this morning at 7:20 a.m. that a 12-foot tall by five-foot wide eagle statue was stolen the cafe located in the 19000 block of Owl Road, adding that the theft happened sometime overnight.

“Investigation has determined that an unknown person(s) had loosened the nuts that were holding the statue in place,” said Hope RCMP detachment commander Staff Sgt. Karol Rehdner. “It would be difficult to move without the benefit of a vehicle.”

The statue was carved in 2009 from red cedar and is owned by the District of Hope, police add.

“To date police do not have any suspects. The investigation is ongoing,” said Rehdner. “RCMP is seeking the assistance of the general public to assist in the recovery of this carving. If any person has any information regarding this theft please contact the Hope RCMP, quoting file 2017-23371, at (604)869-7750.”
