Chilliwack experienced another significant drop in its COVID case count over the last seven days.
The latest numbers released by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) cover the period of Jan. 31 to Feb. 6 and show Chilliwack with 74 recorded cases, 19 fewer than there were between Jan. 24 and 30.
Chilliwack’s count is below half of what it was at the peak of the BCCDC reporting. There were 156 counted between Dec. 27 and Jan. 2 when Chilliwack was one of B.C.’s top COVID hot-spots.

Where not too long ago Chilliwack was in the BCCDC’s worst category, averaging more than 20 cases per 100,000 population, Chilliwack is now in the fourth worst out of six categories, averaging 5.1 to 10 cases per 100,000 people.
As far as the neighbors in the Eastern Fraser Valley go, Hope experienced zero cases in the latest report while Agassiz had two. By sheer volume, Abbotsford continues to be one of the most COVID-impacted locales in the province. With 186 cases in the latest report, Abbotsford slides into the BCCDC’s second worst category, averaging between 15.1 and 20 cases per 100,000 people.
Surrey continues to have the most cases in B.C., with 568, while Kamloops is suddenly becoming a major hot-spot with 161 cases.
Smaller municipalities with smaller populations are hot-spots based on average per 100,000 people even though their case numbers are relatively low. Examples include Merritt, Revelstoke, Terrace and Prince Rupert.
