Chilliwack Fire Department offers training and recruitment for paid-on call firefighters

The CFD scrapped the training program in 2020 due to the pandemic, but it’s full speed ahead in 2021

The Chilliwack Fire Department’s recruitment training program for paid on-call firefighters is happening now.

CFD was forced to cancel this year’s program because of COVID, but there is a great need for motivated and physically fit people who want to be on the front-line protecting their community.

A different-looking 2021 program returns with pandemic protocols, including the use of online learning technology. The group training size will be reduced to increase physical distancing, screening will be implemented and mask-wearing will be required to keep the instructors, students and firefighters safe.

“Today’s firefighters do much more than fight fires,” a CFD news release read. “They are the first ones called to respond to chemical and environmental emergencies, carbon monoxide and gas leaks, even rescuing those trapped in vehicle crashes. But most importantly, today’s firefighters serve their community and the residents of Chilliwack by being leaders and partners in all areas of emergency response.”

Applications are being accepted until Jan. 15, 2021.
