Chilliwack-Hope MP Mark Strahl said the federal Liberal budget delivered Thursday did nothing to help Canadians who are suffering from record-high inflation and a crisis in the cost of living.
“Canadians needed a break in this budget and they didn’t get it,” Strahl said in a press release issued late Thursday afternoon.
Referring to it as a “NDP-Liberal” budget, Strahl took a swipe at the confidence agreement between Trudeau’s party and Jagmeet Singh’s New Democrats.
“Canadians need a plan to deal with the cost-of-living crisis, bolster our economic prosperity and competitiveness, and have hope for a better future. Justin Trudeau and Jagmeet Singh failed to deliver that plan, instead adding another $56 billion dollars in uncontrolled spending to our national debt – borrowed money that can only be paid back through higher taxes from Canadians who are already struggling to make ends meet.”
The federal budget takes advantage of a boom in economic growth, which padded government coffers and includes $85.5 billion in new spending room.
The fiscal deficit increases to $52.8 billion with the spending in the new budget.

“The more the NDP-Liberal coalition spends, the more inflation increases and the more expensive everything gets,” Strahl said. “Instead of tax breaks for Canadians, Justin Trudeau and Jagmeet Singh are using inflation revenue to grow the size and cost of government to Canadian families who are already stretched past their limit.
“This was the NDP-Liberal coalition’s chance to correct course and deliver a responsible budget, but they failed. Unfortunately, it is Canadian families who will pay the price for this reckless budget. Conservatives will continue to be the voice of the millions of Canadians who are left behind by this NDP-Liberal coalition and their irresponsible and unsustainable fiscal plan.”
