City of Chilliwack resumes Street Entertainer/Busking program

Like many other things, the program was halted for months due to the COVID pandemic

If the streets of Chilliwack seem a little more lively lately, it’s because the City of Chilliwack Street Entertainer/Busking Program is back.

Suspended for several months due to the COVID pandemic, the program was reactivated July 7.

City of Chilliwack is monitoring to make sure current public health orders are followed, but according to the program’s page on the City of Chilliwack website, it “allows entertainers the opportunity to display their talents to the community and also broaden the types of culture provided throughout the community.”

The City views the program as part of the revitalization of downtown Chilliwack, particularly now that the District 1881 development is coming together.

Street performers must have an approved application and abide by several rules including maintaining a “neat and clean appearance.”

The City defines buskers as including but not limited to musicians, dancers, jugglers and magicians. Applications won’t be approved for face painters, portrait artists, painters, crafts people or any person or artist who provides a service or produces a product.

And, performances using sharp, flaming or dangerous objects aren’t allowed.
