With just one week left to hand in documents, there are very few candidates in Hope that have publicly announced they are running for office.

The District of Hope council table will have a definite shakeup after the Oct. 15 election — current mayor Peter Robb announced months ago he would not seek re-election. But there will also be at least two councillor seats occupied by newcomers, as current councillor Victor Smith is running for mayor and Bob Erickson was not replaced by a byelection when he moved away mid-term.

There is also at least one seat open at the school board level. John Koopman passed away during the current term (May 5, 2020), and the school district chose not to hold a byelection as well.

The final day to hand in the necessary documents to run for office is Sept. 9, and more information is available in the nomination packages, which are available at the District of Hope office and the Hope and District Recreation Centre, and the Fraser Valley Regional District office in Chilliwack.

If you are running for office, be sure to email news@hopestandard.com.
