Fraser Health has reported a COVID-19 exposure at Coquihalla Elementary School in Hope. This marks the sixth exposure of the school year for Fraser-Cascade School District 78 and the first exposure event outside of Agassiz schools.

Fraser Health defines an exposure as “a single person with [a] lab-confirmed COVID-19 infection who attended school during their infectious period.” In this case, a person who tested positive for COVID-19 was at the school on Oct. 26 and 27.

An exposure is less severe than an outbreak. Health officials can declare an outbreak when evidence of transmission of COVID-19 from one person to another is discovered. There have been no outbreaks in local schools this year.

In the event of an exposure, Fraser Health recommends those without symptoms to continue attending school. Attending school on exposure dates doesn’t necessarily mean a student has been infected with COVID-19. If any action is required, Fraser Health will contact the affected families directly.
