District of Hope: Council candidate Q&A

Scott Medlock

Q1: What experience do you have that makes you suited to be a councillor for the District of Hope?

I have served as a councillor for the District of Hope for the past three terms totaling 10 years of experience. I have also taken on other leadership roles such as president of the Lions Club, and I am currently the vice chair of Community Futures.

Q2: What are the two most pressing issues facing the district? How do you plan to address them? (be specific)

Infrastructure deficit and affordable housing are the top two pressing issues. Allocating appropriate budget to roads, water and sewer upgrades is essential to avoid falling behind any further. I will advocate and support increased density, multi-family developments and mixed use housing that align with our official community plan.

Q3: Many residents of Hope struggle with availability and affordability of housing and basic necessities. This is compounded by a job market with many low-paying jobs and many residents living on fixed incomes. If elected, what will you do to make Hope a place where people can live, work and play comfortably?

I will continue to support developers that are interested in affordable housing. We should continue to market Hope to higher-income earners as a place to live and set up business. Tech jobs, for example, pay good wages and with more housing coming online in the near future the timing is perfect.

Q4: How do you plan to listen to and communicate with residents of Hope if you are elected? (be specific)

I have always had an open door policy. I will continue to listen to residents. I monitor social media and engage in discussion to provide information to those that seek it. My phone is always on.
