An early morning fire ripped through a Mission home on July 24.
At approximately 2:15 a.m., Mission Fire Rescue Service received reports of a fire located at a two-storey house on the 7800 Block of Hurd Street, near the intersection with Holiday Avenue, said Assistant Fire Chief Ian Glasgow.
“There were two residents that evacuated the building during the fire,” Glasgow said. “There was a dog that got out, and a cat that’s still missing.”
When fire crews arrived on scene, the fire was shooting through the roof, Glasgow said, adding there is extensive damage. He said it was extinguished with a single truck, but with the manpower from several crews.
Glasgow said a cause has yet to be determined by fire investigators, but it’s not currently seen as suspicious.
The fire started on the upper floor and near the backside of the house, either on the balcony or within an adjacent room, Glasgow said.
The building is under security as a fire investigation takes place.
