Snow is in the forecast for the first time this fall in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley.

UPDATE: Environment Canada issues weather statement for snow expected in Fraser Valley

Snowfall won’t add up to much accumulation, but temperates are lowering to freezing overnight

Environment Canada has now issued a weather statement for the Fraser Valley for Friday night and Saturday morning.

The area is expected to see wet snow, but with little accumulation.

They said that a low pressure system brushing the south coast will bring a chance of wet snow to the Fraser Valley and Howe Sound. For Metro Vancouver, areas above 200 metres are more likely to see wet snow.

Currently, the trajectory of this low suggests a low probability of accumulating snow for this time period.

In Hope, Chilliwack and Abbotsford, a mix of snow and rain is forecasted from Friday until at least Wednesday. Nightly temperatures will hover around 0 C and daily temperatures about 3 C to 4 C.

But closer to the water, the precipitation will be wetter and the weather will be a little warmer. In Vancouver and White Rock, Environment Canada is calling for snow overnight on Friday into Saturday, and then possibly on Sunday night.

The first day of winter this year is Dec. 21.
