Free rapid COVID-19 test kits available at upcoming weekend event

Test kits will be available in Hope, Agassiz

Now’s your chance to grab a free COVID-19 test kit.

In collaboration with Fraser Health, Engaged Communities Canada Society (ECCS) is paying a visit to Agassiz and Hope to distribute free COVID-19 rapid antigen self-testing kits on Saturday, Oct. 23. ECCS will be in Hope at noon outside the Hope Visitor Centre and in Agassiz at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Park. Usage training will also be available.

Health Canada approved the use of rapid antigen tests for COVID-19 just over a year ago. Typically, these tests involve swabbing the front of the nostrils, stirring the sample in the provided testing liquid and waiting of about 15 minutes. Similar to some pregnancy tests, one stripe is a negative result and two lines is a positive result.

Kits are available only while supplies last.

Vancouver-based ECCS is a grassroots non-profit organization aiming to bridge gaps in access to health care access and related challenges throughout the Lower Mainland.
