Freezing rain in forecast following overnight snowfall in Eastern Fraser Valley

Folks in Chilliwack and throughout Fraser Valley were out shovelling snow Saturday morning

People in the Eastern Fraser Valley woke up to snow Saturday morning.

Mission, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Agassiz and Hope all got at least 10 centimetres of the white stuff on Dec. 18.

But in typical West Coast fashion, the rain came soon after.

Environment Canada put out a weather warning on Dec. 17 stating freezing rain was in the forecast for today.

Hazardous winter conditions were expected on the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt, and on Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton via Allison Pass.

Up to 40 centimetres of snow was expected for the Coquihalla.

DriveBC is reminding motorists to use caution in these slippery conditions.

“Travellers are reminded to please reduce speed, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, and ensure your vehicle is properly equipped to handle winter conditions. Give winter maintenance vehicles lots of space and refrain from passing snowplows.”
