Police say a man in his 50s was struck and killed Thursday evening along Highway 1 in Abbotsford.

Mounties say a commercial vehicle travelling westbound “struck a pedestrian in the roadway” at about 7 p.m. Thursday evening. The man died at the scene. The driver of the truck remained on scene and then was taken to hospital with minor injuries. He has since been released. The BC Coroners Service, British Columbia Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Unit and Fraser Valley Traffic Services continue to investigate.

The incident prompted the closure of all westbound lanes for about seven hours. The highway was re-opened just before 2 a.m.
