Highway crash near Chilliwack killed 28-year-old motorcyclist from Abbotsford

RCMP seek witnesses to Aug. 27 fatal collision involving motorcycle and motorhome

A 28-year motorcyclist from Abbotsford died in a fiery crash on Highway 1 near Chilliwack Thursday night.

RCMP are seeking witnesses to the fatal collision involving a motorcycle and a motorhome that occurred on Aug. 27 at about 9 p.m on the highway at Prest Road.

One motorist saw “a huge flame” at the time of the crash and reported it that night in a Facebook post. The witness called 911 after pulling over to the side and noticing a man face down on the road with a helmet on the side of the highway.

Chilliwack RCMP, Chilliwack Fire Department, and BC Ambulance personnel were called the scene of the collision in the westbound lane.

“Frontline officers quickly arrived at the scene where police located the operator of the motorcycle - a 28-year-old man from Abbotsford - who had succumbed to his injuries,” said Cpl. Mike Rail of UFVRD.

Chilliwack RCMP, BC Coroners Service, and Lower Mainland District-Integrated Collision Reconstruction Service (LMD ICARS) continue the investigations.

“We are reaching out to motorists who may have witnessed or have video of the crash to contact police,” said Rail.
