Details on land issue won’t be made clearer unless it comes to public meeting

Council held a previously unscheduled in-camera meeting this August to discuss the issue of a local property and flood mitigation.

Because the meeting was held in-camera, it was not open to the public and officials cannot provide comment on the meeting.

The issue they were discussing was made partly public through way of the resolution to close the meeting.

It referred to the “acquisition, disposition or expropriation of land or improvements, if the council considers that disclosure could reasonably be expected to harm the interests the municipality.”

Further, the resolution noted the “acquisition of lands for flood related remedial works, Section 90(1)(g) [ litigation or potential litigation affecting the municipality ] re: non-compliant use of land within the District of Hope; legal advice for enforcement options and adopting closed meeting minutes.”

The next scheduled meeting for the District of Hope is not until Sept. 26, as the second week of September is always set aside so that council and staff can attend the annual UBCM conference.
