Councillor Victor Smith has announced he will run for the mayoral chair in Hope this fall.
Smith is just finishing his first four-year term on the District of Hope council, and made the announcement during a visit to the Standard on Monday.
Peter Robb, the current mayor, announced he will not be seeking re-election as mayor two weeks ago.
Smith is a busy volunteer and community organizer, who has been involved in several groups and projects throughout his life.
“I’m born and raised here and care very much about the town and involved in a lot of things,” he said. “The next step is that I can do more for the town (as mayor).”
There have been no other declarations for mayor as of press time. The window for candidates to declare with Elections BC is Aug. 30 to Sept. 9.
General voting day will be Oct. 15.
