The Hope Curling Club’s bonspiel on Feb. 22 had a special guest, Chilliwack-Hope MP Mark Strahl.
The club has been undergoing improvements over the past few months, and it was announced on Saturday that the funding for the improvements has been approved through a federal program.
The program is called New Horizons for Seniors, and was created through the Government of Canada. They are funding $25,000 toward the improvements, which include better access to the main floor bathrooms, new flooring and kitchen upgrades.

In addition to Strahl, Hope Mayor Peter Robb and Councillor Craig Traun were on hand to celebrate the funding approval with the Hope Curling Club President Ray Scott, and Vice President Kent McKinnon.
“Seniors in Chilliwack and Hope have worked hard to support their families, build strong communities and grow our economy,” Strahl said when he announced the program in 2019 and encouraged groups in his constituency to apply.
“The New Horizons for Seniors Program strengthens Seniors’ connections with their communities so they can have the healthy, happy and secure life they have worked hard for.”
Other groups to have received grants from New Horizons in past years include Yale First Nation and the Hope and District Arts Council.
The announcement came just days before the kick-off to the Mixed Doubles Provincials at the Hope Curling Club.
