Hope RCMP thwarted a trio of attempted vehicle thefts on Aug. 11.

Just after 8 a.m. police received a report of a suspicious vehicle on the Coquihalla Highway, between Hope and Othello Road. An officer found the vehicle, which had been reported stolen in Langley. The driver was arrested, and that person also had warrants for his arrest in Vernon.

Around 11:30 a.m. a man was spotted attempting to steal a truck in the area of Third Avenue near Wallace Street. RCMP found the suspect nearby and made the arrest.

In the early afternoon, a vehicle that was stolen in New Westminster was seen in Hope. The vehicle and driver were tracked to the parking lot of the Hope Golf Course and the driver was taken into custody after trying to run away.

All three people that were arrested are non-residents of Hope. All are in their mid-thirties, and all have extensive history with the police.

Hope RCMP Staff Sgt. Dwayne Farlin said the public played a key role in the arrests, phoning in suspicious occurences and keeping police updated on the activities and whereabouts of the suspects.

“This has been an extremely busy summer for the Hope RCMP,” Farlin noted. “These are great examples of how crime can be reduced in our area when the Hope RCMP and the community work together.”

Anyone who sees anything suspicious is asked to call the Hope RCMP at 604-869-7750.
