Kilby Historic Site is re-opening this weekend after a successful Fraser Valley Bald Eagle Festival (FVBEF) brought more than 3,200 people to the site Nov. 17-18.

“The FVBEF was a great success last weekend, mostly due to the fact the weather was so good,” Kilby sales and marketing manager Jo-Anne Leon told the Observer.
“Over 3,000 bald eagles were counted on [the] Saturday of the Fraser Valley Bald Eagle Festival, and over 1,800 people to the Kilby Historic Site that day also.”
Leon said Kilby’s cafe, which seats 50, was full from open until close both days. The 3,200 visitors make it one of the most successful weekends in Kilby’s recent history – more than double the amount its seen during any of the FVBEF since at least 2006.
The festival may be over, but the eagles are still in town. In fact, eagle numbers aren’t expected to peak until mid-December.
So the site decided to make the most of the warm weather and eagle viewing demand.
“There’s stil a lot of people looking at the eagles in the Harrison Mills area,” she said. “We decided to open because of the popularity of the eagle viewing…”
Kilby will be open Nov. 23-24 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
