Three local artists are collaborating on the latest show to appear at the Hope Arts Gallery.

May’s presentation will feature the works of Cathy Davis, Robbie Weir and Moira Stewart in the Back Room Gallery, with the show opening May 1 and continuing through May 29.

The show is titled ‘Into the Forest We Go,’ inspired by a quote from environmentalist John Muir. On July 27, 1869 he said, “And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.”

”Over one hundred years later, the Muir quote still speaks to all of us,” said a Hope Arts Gallery news release. “This collection of wildlife and landscape art works was inspired by the natural environment. Seeing the changes happening globally and locally fostered the desire to celebrate nature. Through their individual and collective creations, these three female artists are observing, honouring, and rejoicing in their connection with the outdoors.

“Capturing nature in all its beauty is their goal.”

The works include acrylics on canvas and wood, photography and textiles. Two of the artists, Stewart and Weir, are Hope Arts Gallery members who started painting lessons at the Art Machine. Davis is an instructor at the Art Machine and has been involved in many solo and group shows in the Back Room Gallery.

The Hope Arts Gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday and is staffed by volunteers.

It operates under the umbrella of the Hope District Arts Council and admission is free.
