A Mission man has been charged after an incident on Saturday (Dec. 4) in Abbotsford in which he allegedly pointed a gun at another driver.

The alleged incident took place just before 2 p.m. in the 32700 block of South Fraser Way. A press release from the Abbotsford Police Department (APD) states that a driver called police, saying that an unknown man in another vehicle had pointed a handgun at them.

With the help of the caller, patrol officers located the man and his vehicle. An imitation firearm was found in the waistband of the man’s pants, and he was taken into custody, the release states.

Dane Aspin, 19, has now been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He has no other prior criminal charges, according to the provincial court database.

APD Staff Sgt. Marcus Senft said carrying or pointing imitation guns is “unacceptable and in some cases criminal.”

“These actions create fear for the victims of these incidents and put police in difficult situations. It is nearly impossible for responding officers to determine if the firearm is an imitation or is real until it is in the hands of the police,” he said.
