Mug fundraisers are the thing to do in downtown Hope these days.

Washtub Launderette is joining Erica Press selling $15 coffee mugs. While Erica Press is raising money for Hope Search and Rescue, Washtub Launderette is donating 100 per cent of proceeds to the Sunshine Valley Fire Department.

“My husband has been a member of the volunteer fire department for many years, and they’re just a wonderful group of guys who will go out of their way and do whatever is needed to get the job done,” said Carla Anderson, who has called Sunshine Valley home the last six years.

The mugs are 11 ouncers, with the business logo on one side and B.C. Strong: Thru Hell and High Water on the other. They are a reminder of 2021 adversity, when Sunshine Valley’s emergency responders truly rose to the challenge.

“They really saved our bacon last summer, and when we had the flooding they were out there, hip deep in water, pulling people out, helping with basements and doing whatever needed done,” Anderson said. “We had a house fire up there a few weeks ago, and they were out there for nine hours in the freezing weather.”

“They are so incredibly well trained. Chris Terry is such a brilliant chief. He focuses on professionalism and safety and all the important stuff. Sunshine Valley is a wonderful community and they’re a big part of it, so whatever I can do to help them.”

The business is located at 541 Wallace Street. In addition to laundry machines, Washtub Launderette also sells Hope souvenirs and crafts made by locals.
