For years, one of the first things travelers see when crossing the Fraser River into Hope, is an empty lot that was once a Texaco.

But now, a developer is hoping to breath new life into 444 TransCanada Highway — and Hope — by building a four-story, 30-unit apartment building.

It will take the approval of council to move forward with that plan, as the maximum density allowed under the Downtown Hope Revitalization plan would only allow for 23 units.

They are hoping to obtain council’s nod for a development permit, through a density text amendment, and the issue will come to Hope council on Monday, March 8 at the regular meeting.

According to a report to council, the former gas station site has been through the Ministry of Environment’s remediation and was issued a certificate of compliance.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m., March 8, at Hope District Hall.
