Hope locals looking for something to do this weekend can get their choice of a comedy show or live music (or both!) this Saturday.

Mountainview Brewing Co. will be hosting award-winning stand up comedian Ed Hill and the Silver Chalice Pub will be hosting the acoustic duo singer/songwriter and guitarist Andrew Christopher and drummer Dylan Weightman. Both performances will be on Saturday, with Hill’s show from 7:30 p.m to 9:00 p.m. and Christopher and Weightman’s show from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Ed Hill: Live at the Mountainview Brewing Company

A follow up to his critically acclaimed one hour comedy special “Candy and Smiley”, Hill’s live show centres on the idea of love and how it connects us all. This is second performance in Hope, the first being a year ago at the Hope Cinema Cafe.

“The theme of the show is really, it’s about the idea of love,” says Hill. “And the ultimate form of love is self acceptance. And I kind of translate through that in the relationship with the women in my life. So my wife, my mother, and my grandmother, and also metaphorically my relationship to Canada. I’m originally from Taiwan, and so Taiwan’s my father and Canada really is my mother.

“So it’s also talking about the values I learned from Canada and how that translates into everyday life that I’m presenting to everybody at the show.”

He says that, throughout the show, he hopes to connect with people and share a moment with them.

Hill moved to Vancouver when he was a child and has performed all over the world. He’s won many awards and was voted “Best Vancouver Comedian of 2016” by Vancouver Courier Magazine, and “Best Vancouver Comedian of 2015” by Vancouver Courier Magazine and The Georgia Straight. He was also named “Comic to Watch” in 2018 by Reader’s Digest Magazine and appeared on AXS TV’s “Gotham Comedy Live”, “Laughs” on FOX, TED talks, and XM Radio.

In addition to his awards, Hill has also performed at the Just For Laughs Northwest Comedy Festival, the Hong Kong Comedy Festival, NXNE, San Francisco Comedy Festival.

Tickets for Hill’s show costs $22.23 and can be purchased at www.eventbrite.com/e/ed-hill-live-at-the-mountainview-brewing-company-tickets-480261544207.

Andrew and Dylan: Live at Silver Chalice Pub

After years of performing at weddings, Christmas parties, and private events here, the acoustic duo will be making their “official Hope debut” on Saturday evening.

“It’s an opportunity for everybody to hear music that they enjoy and be introduced to songs they might know in a different style,” says Christopher. “I’m looking forward to seeing people sing along, if they want to, and even get up and dance. And just interacting with the crowd, and meeting new people, is always a part of the job that Dylan and I like.

“There’s always somebody interesting hiding in those places and we enjoy talking to everybody during our breaks and after the show.”

Christopher, who was born in Agassiz, is a well-known musician of the area. His first solo album, Gone, was released in 2012. Afterwards, together with friend and fellow musician Jamie Rowe, he created Parliment of Owls — a band that doesn’t focus on a definitive genre. Which is something Christopher and Weightman continues with their current shows.

Christopher hopes that the success of Saturday’s show will see him and Weightman coming out to Hope more often; before COVID-19, the duo originally performed together in Parliment of Owls and usually held shows in the Agassiz and Chilliwack areas.
