A “novice” driver has had their car impounded and will be paying a hefty fine after getting caught going 142 kilometres per hour near a playground and school in Vancouver.
The “N” driver, in a BMW, was pulled over in a 50-kilometre-per-hour zone around 11 a.m. Monday at Queen Elizabeth Elementary near Pacific Spirit Park.
“The officers likely prevented the need to investigate a deadly crash caused by his foolish speed,” Insp. Andersen said in a tweet.
Police said the driver received a $483 fine for excessive speeding and three penalty points on their record. They are also applying to suspend their licence.
