Power has been restored to 53 customers in the Spuzzum-Yale area in Dogwood Valley after a five-hour repair effort in sub-zero conditions on Thursday afternoon.

B.C. Hydro’s outage list said the cause for the outage was a tree falling across the wires.

There had been a few reports of power flickering throughout the Hope area; the weight of the recent heavy snowfall and the high wind speeds certainly played a factor. Wind ripped through the Fraser Valley throughout the morning abetween 40 and 70 kilometres per hour with wind chills hitting -17 C this morning.

Wind speeds are not expected to let up by much as evening falls, reaching speeds of up to 60 kilometres per hour and wind chills dropping temperatures to -18 C.

Friday is expected to have similar wind speeds with chills hitting a marginally warmer -15 c with overnight snow, which will turn into a mix of snow and rain through the weekend.
