A preliminary inquiry began Tuesday in Chilliwack provincial court into the case of a hit-and-run that killed a 78-year-old woman more than two years ago.

Linnea Louise Labbee is charged with one count of failure to stop at an accident causing bodily harm in relation to the incident from Dec. 1, 2016.

Details of the scheduled three-day preliminary hearing cannot be reported due to a publication ban.

The 70-year-old Labbee is accused of leaving the scene after striking and killing 78-year-old Fourghozaman Firoozian who was allegedly in a crosswalk on Mary Street near Patten Avenue.

After she was struck that day, Firoozian was transported to hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.

Firoozian was a beloved member of the community, actively involved in volunteer activities.

After Firoozian’s death, a candlelight vigil attended by more than 100 people was held to honour. A roadside memorial with photographs and flowers was also set up at the corner near where she was struck.

“She was a kind, generous, sparkling soul who brightened any room she walked into,” Lana Hergott of Chilliwack Community Services said in 2016.

When she was killed, Firoozian was apparently on her way to donate food to Chilliwack Community Services and take part in the lunchtime Conversation Circle group for new immigrants.
