The District of Hope has a busy night ahead in council chambers Nov. 8, with a public hearing, a regular council meeting and a committee of the whole meeting.
Council will convene at 6:30 p.m. for a public hearing regarding the rezoning of the lot at 455 Coquihalla Street.
The bylaw amendment is intended: “To rezone the property from Single Family Residential (RS-1) to Multiple Family Residential (RM-1) in order to optimize the lands for residential development.”
There has been at least one household to oppose the plans to infill the 1.5 acre lot, and the mayor will ask for other input at the meeting. A third reading of the bylaw amendment is planned later in the evening.
The District of Hope owns the lot, which was once the site of a petroleum bulk plant, and later housed Hope’s community garden. It has stood empty for several years.
Following that meeting, the regular council will begin at 7 p.m. Representatives from Trans Mountain Pipeline and Kiewit Construction will provide an update to council and ask for a noise variance for upcoming work.
Another delegation planned will be Phil Boname and Brendan Dawe of Urbanics Consultants Ltd., who will present findings of the District of Hope Housing Needs Assessment.
The committee of the whole meeting will directly follow the council meeting, in which the main item is a discussion about parking issues at the Rupert Street boat launch.
The meetings are all open to the public now, but attendees must wear masks. The meetings take place at 325 Wallace Street.
