Police and rescuers find one person deceased off of Highway 7 after crash days ago

Reports of a vehicle over an embankment prompted police, SAR, fire crews and ambulance response

Police and emergency services attended an area on Highway 7 near Hope Wednesday night, after a vehicle with a deceased person inside was found off of the highway.

The RCMP received a report about a vehicle over an embankment Cpl. Mike Halskov with the RCMP’s Traffic Services stated. The Hope Fire Department, Hope Volunteer Search and Rescue, the RCMP and ambulances attended the area on the Highway 7 off ramp from Highway 1 just north of the Haig inspection station Wednesday night.

“An investigation revealed that a vehicle left the road and crashed, killing the lone occupant,” Halskov stated Thursday morning. Halskov said the collision happened sometime on or after May 18.

Hope search and rescue crews and RCMP were on scene for over two hours Wednesday, during which time the off ramp was closed to traffic.

The BC Coroners Service has been engaged, Halskov stated, and the family of the person who died has been notified.

The RCMP are not investigating the collision as a criminal matter and won’t be releasing more information he added. For the police their work is now “only as a matter of just tying things up,” Halskov said.

“There’s really no further investigation to be done. We know what happened so it’s not a mystery, and it’s not a criminal matter for us to deal with any longer.”
