Multiple roads across the Fraser Valley, including the District of Kent’s Rockwell Drive, are opening again following catastrophic floods and landslides.

The B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has reported Rockwell Drive is open to two-lane traffic once more. However, given road conditions can change at any time, travellers should continue to watch DriveBC for the latest road conditions.

Due to torrential rain, devastating mudslides and flooding triggered the evacuation of several properties in the Rockwell Drive area. As of Friday (Dec. 3), the District of Kent has rescinded the evacuation order to all residents on Rockwell Drive, Rockwell Place, Pirates Lane, Thunderbird Crescent and Dogwood Lane – all properties north of Lilooet Avenue in Harrison Hot Springs along Rockwell Drive.

Rockwell Drive and the surrounding area were among the longer evacuation orders in the Fraser Valley, several of which having been rescinded over the course of the past week.

As of publication, Highway 7 remains open to essential travel only from Glasgow Avenue in Mission to Ross Road just east of Hope. Checkpoints remain in place and travel restrictions are still enforced. During a press conference on Monday morning, transportation Minister Rob Fleming said Highway 7 will be open to regular traffic later Monday afternoon.

Highway 1 between Exit 138 (Bridal Falls Road) near Chilliwack and Exit 165 (Flood Road) in Hope is open to all traffic. However, drivers can expect consistent delays as some sections of road will be single lane in each direction. Construction continues and reduced speed corridors are in effect.
