Two people have died after an early morning fire burned a house in the Sts’ailes First Nation last Wednesday (Jan. 6).

According to the Agassiz RCMP, the house fire occurred on the 5000-block of Chehalis Road around 3 a.m. on Jan. 6.

The North Fraser Fire Department, the Chehalis Fire Department and the Agassiz RCMP all responded, and found the house fully engulfed in flames. After the fire was extinguished, two people were found dead inside.

“The Agassiz RCMP would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the families of those that perished during this tragic event and also to the members of the Sts’ailes community,” Sgt. Mike Sargent said in a release.

The Agassiz RCMP are working with the BC Coroner’s Office to confirm the identity of the individuals.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but is not believed to be suspicious.
