The body of a missing 22-year-old man lost fishing on the Fraser River was found Wednesday evening downriver from where he was last seen nine days prior.
Jess Austin Nadin, 22, was dropped off by a relative at the river to go fishing at Ballam Road at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 13.
Chilliwack Search and Rescue (CSAR) crews were dispatched to a location on the Fraser River near Old Orchard Road behind Chilliwack Mountain at approximately 6 p.m. on Wednesday (Sept. 22).
An RCMP officer was on scene at Old Orchard on the river as CSAR boats arrived to a spot on the river where a small boat was anchored. After several minutes the CSAR boats left the location, followed by the small boat, where they landed at the Island 22 boat launch in Chilliwack.
Chilliwack RCMP confirmed the recovery early Thursday afternoon in a press release.
“The man’s family requests privacy as their grieve. While RCMP have concluded the police investigation, BC Coroners Service continue the evidence-gathering phase of their investigation.”
The family announced the discovery on the Facebook page dedicated to finding Nadin earlier in the day.
“It is with a heavy heart that the family announces that Jess has been found. Thank you for all your support and efforts in bringing Jess home. Now the family can finally find some peace and start to grieve.”
A candlelight vigil has been scheduled for Sept. 30 at the location where he went missing.
