Holiday shoppers from the Upper Fraser Valley are reminded that thieves are waiting to steal your stuff.
RCMP say vehicles that are left unattended in parking lots, car doors that are left unlocked, items and purchases that are in easy view, and electric garage door openers that are left inside vehicles overnight present opportunities for thieves.
“Together with our officers conducting proactive patrols we encourage neighbours to watch out for neighbours and report suspicious activity to police,” said Cpl. Mike Rail with the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment, which covers the area from Chilliwack to Agassiz, Hope and Boston Bar. “Working as a community remains a powerful means to keep our neighbourhoods safe.”
Rail provided tips for keeping property safe, including:
– Always lock vehicle doors
– Do not leave valuables in plain view inside your vehicle
– Remove valuables and remote garage door openers from your vehicle when parking for the night
– Light up your home
When travelling over the Christmas season, RCMP recommend having someone check your home daily and pick up any newspapers/flyers left on your doorstep. If you’re going away for an extended period of time, it’s a good idea to have the post office hold your mail.
RCMP remind anyone who sees anything suspicious to contact local police or call Crime Stoppers (anonymously) at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
