The Hope and District Arts Council (HDAC) are seeking information about vandalism to their property, which they say happened last night or the day before.

According to HDAC executive director Diane Ferguson, vandals broke into their modular building located at the corner of Raab St. and Fourth Ave. and caused destruction to their property.

“Just making a mess and destroying things, not even to steal anything,” said Ferguson. “The police thought it was probably teenagers or somebody, I don’t know.”

Ferguson said they had put plywood on the building to keep people out, but the vandals removed the plywood and broke the glass, light fixtures, windows and punched holes into the drywall. She also added that they broke a new $300 lock. HDAC had planned to use the building as their new Art Machine facility.

Hope RCMP detachment commander Staff Sgt. Karol Rehdner said that the incident happened some time during the night of June 13 or 14. They add that an unknown number of persons forcibly entered the building, which contained no property so nothing was stolen, however they caused “significant damage to the interior of the structure.”

Anyone with information should call HDAC at 604-869-3400 or Hope RCMP at 604-869-7750.
