VIDEO: Man dies after car collides with parked commercial vehicle in Abbotsford

48-year-old driver dies following crash; Abbotsford Police Department continue investigation

The driver who was airlifted from the scene of a serious collision Friday afternoon (Feb. 24) in Abbotsford has died of his injuries, police have now reported.

The one-vehicle crash took place at about 2:30 p.m. in the 35400 block of South Parallel Road (just west of the Fraserglen Golf Course).

Sgt. Paul Walker, media relations officer with the Abbotsford Police Department (APD), said the vehicle went off the road and crashed into a parked commercial trailer.

First responders arrived on scene and provided medical care, but the 48-year-old driver did not survive, Walker said. He was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

Highway 1 was temporarily closed between Whatcom Road and Sumas Way while an air ambulance was on scene.

Walker said APD officers are in the early stages of this investigation and are being assisted by the Integrated Collision Analysis Reconstruction Service.

Investigators are seeking witnesses and dashcam footage from those who may have been driving eastbound along Highway 1 from Sumas Way to Whatcom Road between 2:15 and 2:30 p.m. Those with information are asked to call the APD at 604-859-5225.
