A logging truck still smolders after it overturned in the westbound lane of Highway

Highway 1 was closed in both directions Thursday afternoon after a truck rolled over just west of the Highway 9 overpass.



Highway 1 was closed in both directions Thursday afternoon after a B-train transport truck rolled over and spilled its load of lumber near the “S curves” just west of the Highway 9 overpass.

There were no reports of serious injury, although the driver of the truck was transported to hospital. According to police, only one vehicle was involved.

The accident occurred at around 3:15 p.m. in the westbound lane. The cab of the vehicle briefly caught fire, however firefighters were able to douse the blaze.

Traffic was snarled in both direction as emergency workers cleared the scene.

By 4:30 eastbound traffic was moving again, although slowly.

According to DriveBC, the westbound lane was not expected reopen until midnight.

The crash is still under investigation. Anyone who may have seen the incident is asked to call Fraser Valley Traffic Services at 604.702.4039, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
