Two young cyclists were released from hospital with minor injuries after being hit by a truck in downtown Hope June 20.
The cyclists, both under age 18, were traveling together on a tandem bicycle when they were hit by a truck at the corner of Park St. and 5 Ave. The accident was called in to the RCMP just after 1 p.m., Cpl. Tateyama with the Hope RCMP confirmed.
“(The vehicle) remained at the scene. The driver was cooperative with the police investigation, at this time no charges have been laid,” he said.
The two cyclists suffered minor injuries, they were taken to the Fraser Canyon Hospital as a precaution but released later. Neither of the cyclists was wearing a helmet, Tateyama said.
He reminded cyclists it is the law to wear a helmet, which can help immensely during situations like this accident.
Drivers should also be aware of cyclists on local roads, especially as the weather warms.
