Charles Walter Thomas. Charlie passed away peacefully on December 24, 2013 at Fraser Canyon Hospital. He was born May 16, 1927 in Toronto. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Margaret Thomas and his fraternal twin sister, Doris (Thomas) Fonden. Charlie is survived by his niece, Diane (Fonden) Nederveld of Colorado and two nephews, Robert Fonden of New Hampshire and Ronald Fonden of Federal Way Washington. Charlie spent most of his youth and young adult life in Manitoba graduating from the University of Manitoba. He then enlisted with the RCMP serving in many communities across the country including Hope from 1956 to 1958. Charlie and Frannie knew that Hope was where they wished to live permanently. Upon their return in 1968 they moved to Silver Creek and became the King and Queen of “cricksiders”. Frannie passed away in 2011 and Charlie remained in their home. Charlie was a founding member of the Flood, Laidlaw, Silver Creek Fire Department monitoring his pager until his passing and was a long-standing member of Rotary and the Legion. He received the Governor General Award for exemplary service to his community. Frannie and Charlie were devoted members of the Anglican Church. Thank you to the Fraser Canyon Hospital staff for all your care and kindness. Memorial service will be held on Saturday January 11th at 2pm at the Anglican Church. Donations may be made to the Fraser Canyon Hospice Society. No flowers by request.
