"Don't allow those who take advantage of your generosity to stop you from being generous." - Don Gibson
The man who had a kind word for everyone (except hockey officials) and funny and interesting stories for all occasions, has left us, and the world is a little poorer for his exit.
In his personal life, he was a loving and faithful husband to Marion, a kind father to Bill (Trish) and Rick (Angie), and a welcoming relative to many in the extended family, all of whom enjoyed his warmth and generosity.
His work life began as a School Bus Driver nch hand; he drove transports and worked as a car mechanic and then heavy- duty mechanic before taking his training as an electrician and Instrument Operator. It ended when his years of working for the Gas Company gave him a certain disability for jumping into and out of ditches and carrying the heavy materials needed to lay and replace gas lines. When he required knee replacements, he always said their deteriorated condition was a result of "misspent youth": he played hockey (as a goalie) and baseball (as a catcher), both of which require agility in the knees.
After his retirement and the death of his first wife, he later met and married Linda, who often said he was the love she'd been waiting for all of her life. Her children, Chris (Kelly) and Liz (Dave) accepted him into the family with gratitude and love. They had a happy marriage, full of travel and good times and laughter. Together, they kept the Anglican Church of the Resurrection running until its membership declined to the point past which it couldn't function. They continued to keep the faith and organize Bible Studies and attend services at other churches.
We hold you close within our hearts, And there you will remain.
To walk with us throughout our lives Until we meet again. Remembering you is easy
We do it every day
But missing you is a heartache That will never go away.
A Celebration of Life will be held later this summer. Watch for the announcement in the Hope Standard.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Fraser Canyon Hospice Society, or a charity of your choice.
