Doug MURRAY

July 20, 1926 – September 5, 2017

Doug Murray, 91, passed away on September 5 after a valiant fight with dementia. He has gone off to his garden in the sky. He will be greatly missed by his family. Doug was adamant that he not have a funeral of any sort, so family are honouring his wishes. Doug is survived by his daughters Linda and Sandra (Len Gurski), his niece Lynn (Ken Carmichael) and his sister-in-law Georgia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joy and his sister Beryl Fredrickson. Doug was born in Melita, Manitoba in 1926. He loved planes so joined the army and trained to be a paratrooper. He moved to Hope in the late 40’s and met his wife, Joy. They built a life together in Hope and enjoyed travelling to warm places in the winter. Doug was a carpenter by trade, but a gardener at heart and created a beautiful garden on their property by the river that was visited by people from all over the world. His garden was featured in Garden’s West magazine which made him enormously proud. He was also a great story teller. In his final years, Doug was cared for by the amazing staff at the Fraser Hope Lodge. He was treated with enormous care, compassion, respect and best of all for Doug, sense of humour. Huge thanks to Sylta Hellner and her phenomenal staff, who are second to none.
