Hope resident, Edgar Koth, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 1, 2024. Originally from Germany, he studied sociology and psychology at the University of Berlin, but always felt drawn to the wilderness and natural beauty of North America, and in the late 1970s, he and his wife, Margarete, immigrated to Canada. They first lived in Alberta, where their two sons were born, then in the Kootenays, and in 2013 they moved to Hope and settled there.

Edgar will be remembered for his gregarious spirit, his many stories, and his fondness for having long conversations with people from all walks of life. Many local residents will doubtless remember seeing him on his frequent visits to the swimming pool, and his walks around Memorial Park with his trusty ski poles. For the final years of his life, he lived in the Fraser Hope Lodge, where he received excellent care, and his sense of humour was loved by all. He will be greatly missed.

Edgar was 81 years old. He is survived by his wife Margarete, and his two sons, Bernie and Oliver.
