Edward SCHMIDT

SCHMIDT, Edward Carl. Ed passed away December 12, 2013 with his family by his side after a long battle with PSP(Progressive Supranuclear Palsy).

Ed was born Mar. 2, 1930 in Kelowna and after many moves, settled in Hope. Ed was previously married and had five children: Reginald (deceased), Valerie, Sherry, Katherine(Dennis) and Cindy (Mike). Ed then married Marlene in 1970 and had three children: Laurie Hansen, Roger, and Donna (Al Goodman). Ed also has 19 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Ed had four brothers: Jack, William (deceased), Lawrence and Leonard, 4 sisters: Elizabeth Dillman (deceased), Mary Jacobsen (deceased), Violet Wilson and Jean Shurtleff (deceased). Ed moved to Hope in 1973. He worked at the Weigh Scales from 1975-1985. He and his family built the Othello Tunnels Campground in 1986 and enjoyed meeting the visitors from around the world for 13 years before retiring to downtown Hope. Ed loved camping, fishing, making sausage, gardening and animals - of which we had many different species. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Greggain for his care and the staff at Fraser Hope Lodge for making Ed a part of their family during his stay with them. A Celebration of Life was held at the Legion Hall on December 14, 2013 with Pastor Jeff Kuhn officiating. A tribute to Ed was given by Brian McKinney.
