Helen Lena Darroch (nee Gallant, nee Meloshinsky) passed away in her sleep on July 4, 2010 at the Fraser Hope Lodge in Hope, British Columbia. Helen was born January 11, 1924 to Ed and Jennie Meloshinsky on a homestead near Inglis, Manitoba. She spent her adult life in various communities in Manitoba including Roblin, Brandon and Winnipeg before moving to Hope in 1996.

Her life passions included painting, primarily with water colours, flower gardening and touring yard sales and flea markets for bargains. She will be remembered for her willingness to embrace new life experiences and for her fierce desire for independence. Her faithful feline Boots was her constant companion and a great source of solace and joy.

Helen is predeceased by her husbands William Gallant (1983) of Roblin, Manitoba and Bert Darroch (1990) of Winnipeg, Manitoba and her younger brothers Nick and Andy Meloshinsky. Helen is survived by a younger sister Margaret who resides in Winfield, BC and a sister-in-law, Lorna Meloshinsky of Chilliwack, BC, as well as by her four children; Boni Craig of Shropshire, England, Richard Gallant of Calgary, Alberta, Lyle Gallant of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Danielle Lovering of Winnipeg, Manitoba, eight grandchildren; Spencer, Jennie, John, Annie, Laura, Mark, Reid and Haley and two great grandchildren; Alex and Noah.

A gathering and memorial service will be held in Helen's memory at the Anglican Church of the Resurrection, 345 Raab Street on Friday, July 9, 2010 at 1:00 pm. following the service, Helen will be interred in the Roblin and District Cemetery. Special thanks to the staff at the Fraser Hope Lodge for the wonderful care offered to Helen during her time in residence. If friends so desire, contributions can be made directly to the Fraser Hope Lodge.
