July 16, 2024

In loving memory of Iris May Haw, who lived her life full of love and joy, we sadly announce her passing on July 16, 2024, at the age of 93, at Heritage Village in Chilliwack. Her departure leaves a void in our hearts.

Iris had a zest for life and was a kind-hearted, giving, and compassionate woman, who always put the needs of her family, friends and others before her own. She saw the best in everyone she met, extending grace and warmth to all who crossed her path.

Iris was born in Webb, Saskatchewan in 1931, and grew up outside Simmie. She was the 5th of 13 children born to Hans and Charlotte (nee Grant)Hansen. A large loving and close-knit family.

She enjoyed a happy farm lifestyle childhood on the prairies and had fond memories attending a small one room school. At 16, Iris moved with her family to Kelowna, she later worked at the hospital, and was married at age 19 to her loving husband Earl who followed her from Saskatchewan. The young couple soon moved to Quesnel in 1950 where they began their family, having three sons. Departing from many memories & lifelong friends made there, they moved to Hope in 1968 where Iris was a homemaker, business owner (The Gift Box & Sears), an involved volunteer and member of the community & United Church. They both enjoyed curling and camping, and visiting good friends & neighbours.

Iris was the heart of her family, she treasured every moment spent with her, children, grandchildren and loved ones. Our families were always drawn back to be together with her, at home in Hope. As a mother she gave endless love, warmth, understanding and guidance.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, Earl, sons Norman and Randy, granddaughter, Emily, and siblings Arnold, Evelyn, Effie, Wyonna, Nora, Keith, Hans, Delmar, Dennis & Jim.

Iris is survived by her son, Pat (Rhonda) & their son, Josh (Beca); Randy's wife, Cheryl, and their daughter Sierra (Andy) & children - Colton, Londyn, Harlow & Rumi Ciancone as well as their son Dustin; Norman's wife, Jennifer plus her brother Ken Hansen, sister Shirley Lipsett (Ken), & sisters-in-law Irene, Pat and Elaine. She is also survived with affection by many beloved nieces & nephews.

Iris was the source of our joy and will be missed immensely. Her memory and legacy of unconditional love and compassion will be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew her.

A celebration of Iris's life will be held on Sept 14th at 2pm at the United Church. 310 Queen St.. Hope B.C.
