He was predeceased by his parents, Ole and Clara Howe; one brother and three sisters: Valle Gray, Lyle Howe, Olive Berg and Lavina Travers. Service of Remembrance was held Tuesday, January 15 at 1:30 p.m. at Elk Point Seniors Centre, Elk Point, Alberta, Reverend Sam Donaldson officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.

Ivan was born in Stettler, Alberta on June 27, 1919 to parents Ole and Clara Howe. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Elk Point, AB where Ivan and his siblings spent their formative years. His adventurous spirit emerged early in life. As a teen, Ivan hopped on rail cars and went missing from home for weeks at time. His eyes were always cast forward, looking ahead to what was over the hill…the next place….new people…different experiences.

He left home at 19 for the gold mines of Yellowknife and loved the north country, returning for many years to renew the friendships he had forged there. After a short stint as an engineer in the Armed Forces, he settled into a career in forestry in Chilliwack, BC, owning his own logging trucks and working up and down the BC coast.

During this time, Ivan raised his family, always with a teasing voice and a good dose of humour. Children naturally gravitated to him and he especially like to spend time with his grandchildren.

In the mid 80's, after retiring, he moved back to Elk Point, AB. Here he found his niche with the seniors - calling bingo, floor curling, MC'ing at social events and always out on the floor dancing. He also continued his wandering ways, borne of curiosity of what was beyond the next horizon, traveling extensively from the Pacific to the Atlantic coasts and from the Yukon and NWT to Mexico.

After a life well lived, Ivan, Dad, and Grampa passed away peacefully in Edmonton, January 10, 2008.
