FONTAINE, Kairn Dale

On May 15, 1941 Kairn Dale Fontaine was born to Rita (nee Morrow) and Jim Fontaine in Dawson City, Yukon; "A Sourdough". Kairn had no memory of Dawson, as our parents ended up in Hope in 1948. Our father was the Standard Oil agent. Our family home was built by our father and is now my residence.

Kairn was crowned May Queen in Hope in 1955 and also was in two major beauty contests in Vancouver. Kairn was a very beautiful classy young lady. She was an excellent student graduating from Hope High in 1959. Kairn lived and worked in Abbotsford and raised Patric and Shayna as a single Mom. Hockey, skating and music, Kairn managed to provide and give her two children the best life possible on her own. After Pat and Shayna's graduation, Kairn moved to the Dominican Republic to manage a hotel. Years later when Mekrae, her first grandson was born, Kairn came home, a very proud grandma. She lived to see Mekrae graduate in June. Kairn came to Hope to help me after Bob and Keenan died and I had a procedure done on my knee. Our last weeks together were wonderful; two sisters enjoying ourselves in the home we grew up in. On Tuesday, October 20, in our dining room, Kairn died as she lived, with dignity and class, in my arms from a heart attack. There will be no service. Donations in memory of Kairn can be made to the Fraser Canyon Hospital Auxiliary. Rest in Peace my beautiful sister, Love Echo.
